The design scope for this project included connection design for a large upfit to an existing power plant located in North Carolina that was built in 1965. Most of the connections consisted of new connections to existing steel which required extensive use of field welding. The connection shown here is the bottom chord of a new transfer truss connecting to an existing transfer girder (W36x184). The loads for this connection exceeded 1170 kips at the chord and 500 kips within the internal truss members. Other connections included a girder end connection with an end reaction of 1000 kips as well as varying types of vertical brace connections.
